THANK YOU... for your interest in Friends of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park (Friends). We are excited to have this opportunity to introduce you to our Citizen Support Organization (CSO). The Friends CSO was organized in 2009 by a group of passionate volunteers who wanted to protect and help sustain the Weeki Wachee Springs State Park. As a CSO, we are a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization with oversight by the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Recreation and Parks.
Soon after the first Board meeting, relationships with local government agencies, businesses, and other not-for-profit organizations were established to promote the Friends mission of supporting the Weeki Wachee Springs State Park.
Since Friends was created, the CSO has most recently funded the Park's renovation of the Mermaid Theatre, the Wildlife Show set, the Wilderness Cruise dock, and Buccaneer Bay. Friends was on hand to provide funds for an emergency repair on the slide water pumps, a new boat motor, a lightening detection system, new speakers for Buccaneer Bay and the Wildlife Show, installation of satellite radio at Buccaneer Bay, underwater safety equipment, landscaping around the park, and so much more. As you can see, the Friends of Weeki Wachee loves the park and can use new members AND active Board members!
In 2022, a Weeki Wachee Springs State Park Unit Management Plan was adopted for the Park by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection that outlined needed improvements. The Friends mission is to raise funds that will help to offset improvement costs to the state park system and improve Weeki Wachee Springs State Park for generations to come.
Our fund-raising efforts are dedicated to making our beloved Park the thriving, national family attraction it has been since 1947. The Friends of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park volunteers work tirelessly to make this iconic natural spring a destination where families create lifelong memories by experiencing the magic of live mermaids and the Weeki Wachee River.
The Friend's Board of Directors meets the third Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. in the Park's Administrative Conference Room. If you are interested in attending a meeting, please contact us a week prior to the meeting date via email at:

WHAT CITIZEN SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS DO | HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THE FRIENDS |
A CSO can raise funds, seek and receive grants, accept gifts and bequests of money, as well a tangible property and real property. These funds can provide additional equipment, buildings, programs and renovations according to the needs and plans for the individual park. The overall statewide goal of a CSO is to help our state parks provide interesting, educational and entertaining visitor services. |
